"The Dirty River band is in town. Let the good times roll!" Dirty River features the best show, class and all blues! Our purpose is to have fun, explore the blues and share an engaging hi-energy performance that connects with the audience. A band that is not afraid to try new things but still play the old delta and front porch style blues. Prior to the Cincinnati Blues Society, Dirty River was instrumental in starting the first blues festival in Cincinnati and getting the Blues Society rolling. Don Schott was an early bass player in the band, and we played on WAIF-FM, home to Kitty Carson's "Kitty's Blues" radio program, starting the alliance that started the whole thing. In the same time frame, Dirty River was the house band at Township Fields and Tavern, where it was Sondra and Jenelle's idea to host a blues festival, a first for the area; we did so in conjunction with the Cincy Blues Society that was just getting started. It was sponsored by the March of Dimes. Jenelle, the next year, working on the Blues Society's festival committee, helped bring James Cotton to town for the first 'official' Blues Society festival. It was held indoors at the Topper Ballroom at Music Hall. Dirty River that same year played a blues performance for "RiverFest" that was televised. This is but a small part of our history of which there is much more! There were many great players that have played in the band though the years including our very first singer Kathy Wade, now known primarily for jazz! The band consists of: Paul Corello Guitar, Bottleneck, National/Resonator, Bass, Vocals Jeff Bonta Guitar, Bottleneck, Vocals Randy Birckhead Bass, Guitar, Vocals Brad Hatfield Blues Harp Jenelle Murray Drums Other members will include Kurtis Heinrick, Jay Tucker, Jymii, Albert Crabtree and other special guests.
